EFT Tapping

What is EFT Tapping?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It is an evidence- based, self help stress reduction tool, referred to as "EFT Tapping.”  

EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a gentle, evidence-based, body-focused approach that supports emotional regulation and nervous system calm. It is commonly used as a stress-reduction and self-regulation tool, and once learned, can be practiced anywhere and at any time.

By tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body while bringing mindful attention to an emotion, concern, physical sensation, or stressful experience, EFT helps reduce the intensity of what the body and mind are holding. As the nervous system settles, emotions often soften, thoughts become less charged, and the body can return toward balance.

Rather than bypassing or suppressing discomfort, EFT invites us to gently meet what is present — allowing the system to reorganize in a way that feels safe and supported.

People often turn to EFT when they are experiencing:

  • Ongoing stress or emotional overwhelm

  • Anxiety, fear, or persistent worry

  • Self-doubt, judgment, or limiting beliefs

  • Pain, sleep problems, Trauma, PTSD, cravings, weight loss issues, substance use, fears and phobias.

  • Difficulty calming the body after activation

  • Physical discomfort influenced by stress or unresolved symptoms

  • Repetitive emotional or behavioral patterns that don’t seem to shift, despite insight or effort

  • Experiences from the past that still feel present in the body, even when they are no longer happening

EFT supports the nervous system in calming the stress response so that healing and change can unfold without force.

How EFT Works

From a neuroscience and nervous-system perspective, EFT sends calming signals to the brain’s stress-response center (the amygdala), helping reduce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. This supports activation of the parasympathetic nervous system — the state associated with rest, repair, and regulation.

EFT is also a somatic (body-based) practice. By engaging both awareness and physical sensation, it supports the nervous system in processing experiences that may otherwise remain held beneath conscious awareness. Over time, this can shift emotional patterns, beliefs, and responses, allowing greater flexibility in how we think, feel, and behave.

From an energetic perspective, EFT is based on the understanding that emotional distress is related to disruptions in the body’s energy system. By tapping on meridian points while tuning into the source of distress, energy begins to move, and the intensity of symptoms often diminishes or resolves.

When Experiences From the Past Remain Present

At times, the nervous system continues to respond as if something is still happening, even when it has long passed. This can show up as emotional reactions, physical sensations, or repeated patterns that don’t resolve through insight alone.

EFT offers a gentle, body-based way to work with these experiences — supporting the nervous system in completing and reorganizing what may have been left unfinished, without needing to relive or retell the past.

Some experiences are held in the nervous system rather than the story — and they often require a body-based approach to shift.

A Gentle, Attuned Approach

EFT is not about tapping away emotions or trying to “fix” what feels uncomfortable. Instead, it offers a compassionate way to acknowledge what is true — including unhelpful beliefs, emotional patterns, or sensations — so they can move through rather than remain held.

This gentle approach allows the body to feel met rather than pushed, creating the conditions for healing, insight, and lasting change.

What a Session Is Like

Sessions are slow, relational, and responsive. We work with what is present — at a pace your nervous system can trust. You are guided to tap while staying connected to your body’s signals, allowing emotions and sensations to shift naturally as regulation increases.

Each session is shaped around your unique experience, capacity, and intentions.

This Work Over Time

EFT can be experienced as a stand-alone series of sessions or woven into a longer-term Regulated Living™ coaching container. When experienced over time, EFT supports deeper emotional integration, nervous system flexibility, and real-life application — allowing change to unfold in a sustainable and embodied way rather than through effort or willpower.

Picture Tapping Technique

Picture Tapping Technique (PTT) is a technique that uses EFT Tapping along with the power of metaphor and the imagination, to release problems/issues in a safe and gentle way.

Using metaphor and symbols, PTT often allows access to aspects, thoughts and memories that may be difficult to express, either verbally, or even through other modalities.

Clients are often surprised and grateful for the way dots are connected between events, experiences and issues that are brought forward. Resolution can happen rather simply without thinking, analyzing or interpreting necessary. Picture Tapping can be a great tool for working with Parts, attachment injury and adverse experiences from the early years.

One of its many benefits is that it is not required to share the issue, especially if it feels embarrassing or uncomfortable.

In PTT the pictures are hand drawn by the client. It is NOT about artistry- in fact, no artistic ability or skill is required!  

Drawing by hand allows direct access to the subconscious - where all issues are stored, and where deep healing can occur.
